Lightweight, insulating, strong aggregate.
Its porous internal structure means Laterlite Expanded Clay is lightweight (from approx. 320 kg/m³), thermally insulating (thermal conductivity lambda l from 0.09 W/mK), and sound-absorbent. The ceramic “clinkered” outer shell surrounding the expanded clay granules makes them very hard and resistant to compression (up to 12 N/mm).
Extremely stable and durable
Laterlite Expanded Clay will not rot, cannot be attacked by parasites (fungus, rodents, insects, etc.), is resistant to acids, bases, solvents, and freeze-thaw cycles.
Lightweight Expanded Clay aggregates are dimensionally stable and non-deformable and retains their properties unaltered over time.
They are one of the most durable of all building materials: for all practical purposes, these aggregates will last forever.
Non-combustible and fire-resistant
Laterlite Expanded Clay is composed by 100% mineral non-combustible aggregates (Euroclass fire rating – A1), does not contain organic compounds or derivatives, is fire-resistant and safe, including in the presence of fire. It is commonly used in refractory applications.
A natural material for sustainable construction
The natural raw materials used in Laterlite Expanded Clay, its manufacturing process that respects the environment, and the total absence of harmful emissions (even in the presence of fire), make it ideal for sustainable construction as certified by ANAB-ICEA, the Italian Accreditation Institute.
Versatility
Laterlite Expanded Clay is used extensively in construction, both loose on its own or mixed with binders (cement, lime, resins, etc.).
It is widely used as a component of concretes, in blocks and precast elements, for agricultural and horticultural applications, and in geotechnical engineering and infrastructure works.
High drainage capacity
Because of its granular nature, which consists of a dense network of intergranular voids with high drainage capacity, Laterlite Expanded Clay aggregates can be used to create lightweight drainage layers of high strength.
CE-marked
Laterlite Expanded Clay is manufactured and tested in accordance with international reference standards and is CE-marked to denote conformity to EN 13055-1, EN 14063-1, and EN 13055-2.
Laterlite Expanded Clay is an extremely versatile material that can be used both loose on his own and bonded with different types of binders when needed.
