On top of flat roofs waterproofing, previous layers can be created with several functions: waterproofing protection against UV radiation and thermal shocks, waterproofing and insulation ballasting, increased summer comfort and thermal lag, or levelling and screeding for subsequent permeable floor covering.
Roof ballast aggregate
As an alternative to gravel and ballast stones, Laterlite Expanded Clay can be applied loose, both in its special hydrophobic Plus version and in the standard version, as lightweight permeable ballasting, and protection layers on top of waterproofing and insulation. It reduces up to 85% of the dead loads compared to heavy aggregates, while increasing thermal resistance, both in inverted and warm roofs, protecting them from solar radiation, thermal shocks, and impacts.
Lightweight pervious concrete
The excellent draining capacity of pervious lightweight concretes based on expanded clay (Latermix Cem Classic) makes them suitable for use as a very robust drainage layer below permeable types of paving (such as concrete pavers, paving slabs, architectural pervious concrete, etc.) or to support small concrete structures and can replace or complement the function of drainage sheets.
The permeable concrete allows the surface collection of rainwater on the roof: the water is drained off at the base of the permeable concrete layer and discharged through the building’s sewage network.
All these application possibilities highlight the benefits of the specific characteristics of Laterlite Expanded Clay and Latermix premixed products: durability, stability, non-combustibility, resistance to high temperatures, rot-proof and not attacked by rodents or fungi.
