Loft and Attic Insulation

The insulation of attics and lofts takes advantage of unused or only partially used attic space below a pitched roof, to minimise heat gains/losses through the top ceiling and thus improve winter and summer thermal comfort in the spaces below.

Laterlite Expanded Clay or Laterlite Plus natural insulation is traditionally used for this purpose because:

  • it is easy to put in place because it is laid loose
  • it adapts to irregular shapes including around beams, on top of vaults, and in cavities or irregularly shaped spaces, without leaving any waste
  • It is durable, dimensionally stable and cannot be attacked by parasites, rodents, and insects, e.g., termites or fungi.
  • it is incombustible, fire resistant and safe even when in contact with high temperature flues and it is ideal for creating a buffer fireproof insulation around the flue, to separate it from other combustible insulation materials.
  • it is mechanically strong and with a load-bearing capacity which allows it to be used in on top of decks or floor slabs for warehouses, after being covered with a screed or a slab.
